“Here you are Kelly. Take these pills twice a day for ten days, and those sinuses should be cleared up in no time.” Kelly could still hear her doctor’s voice in her head as she sneezed into the bathroom mirror. She had read over the prescription three times a day, and had even admired the pill’s design. But now it was day nine, and she had yet to take even one. “Ahhhhchooooo!” Eyes blurred, she gazed into the mirror. Her nose was so red, it was beginning to hurt her eyes! As if she needed anymore pain. Thoughtfully, she picked up the medicine bottle, unscrewed the top, and began to admire the pills again.

What do you think will happen to Kelly? Will she get better any time soon?
Medicine was made to help humanity by treating and preventing disease. But if we do not take the medicine prescribed to us, it cannot help us.
It is not until we take the pill and let it loose inside of us, that we will see change in our bodies.

Similarly, the bible is the medicine of our soul, bringing health to our innermost being. If we only read the Bible instead of doing what it says, we will remain in our current condition, and gradually worsen.

However, if we release the word of God and allow it to explode on the inside of us, so that we do as it says, we will experience peace, healing, and true transformation. Proverbs 4:20-22 says, “My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.” (‭NLT)

Merely looking at medicine and failing to actually take it, can lead to health complications and possibly even death. Similarly, if we only hear the Word of God instead of doing what it says, we will settle for mere survival or even a chronic spiritual state. Why should we settle for survival, when we were meant to thrive? So let us purpose to not only read the Word of God, but put it into practice. Let’s purpose to thrive!
